FORMER ROGERSVILLE WATER DEPARTMENT SUPERINTENDENT INDICTED ON THEFT CHARGES
JOHNSON CITY – A joint investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Rogersville Police Department and the Tennessee Office of the Comptroller has led to the indictment of the former Rogersville Water Department superintendent.
In July 2017, at the request of 3rd District Attorney General Dan Armstrong, TBI Special Agents began investigating allegations of theft against Shawn Hatchett (DOB 6/24/68). During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that between January 2016 and December 2017, Hatchett used his position as superintendent to steal more than $300,000 from the Rogersville Water Department.
This week, the Hawkins County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Hatchett with one count of Theft over $250,000, one count of Theft over $60,000, and one count of Official Misconduct. Today, he was arrested and booked into the Hawkins County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
