Mason indicted on multiple charges related to 2017 homicide

MEMPHIS – A joint investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Somerville Police Department, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Lucius Nathaniel Mason, Sr. on multiple charges related to a 2017 homicide.

On December 24, 2017, at the request of the 25th District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI began a joint investigation into the death of Keary Chears, DOB 7/5/1959, that occurred in December 2017 near West Market Street in Somerville, TN.

On March 26th, a Fayette County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Lucius Nathaniel Mason, Sr., DOB 3/12/1963, with First Degree Murder, Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property, and Tampering with Evidence for his role in the homicide. 

As indicated in a prior release, Mason was arrested on a parole violation warrant on December 28, 2017. Mason is still currently being held without bond at the Fayette County Jail on the prior probation related charges, but he is now facing several additional charges related to the homicide of Keary Chears.
