Fire Department installed smoke alarm, saves family of five
At 6am on the morning of April 4, 2018 the Madison County Fire
Department responded to a house fire on Reeves Road in Medon Tennessee.
Upon investigation, firefighters learned that the family of five was alerted to
the fire by a smoke alarm that was installed by the Department a few months
earlier, on December 22, 2017. The smoke alarm activation quickly notified
the home occupants of the rapidly developing fire in the rear unoccupied
bedroom of the house. Family members escaped the home while the owner
extinguished the blaze prior to fire department arrival. The smoke alarm
was provided to the Madison County Fire Department through a program
known as the “Get Alarmed TN”.
“Get Alarmed, TN” is a grant-funded fire safety education and smoke alarm
installation program administered by the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s
Office. Since the program’s inception in November 2012, the Madison

County Fire Department has installed well over 2,500 smoke alarms in at-
risk homes in Madison County. The department also credits a “Get Alarmed

TN” smoke alarm with saving the life of another person back in 2015 and
the State Fire Marshal’s Office credits the alarms with saving over 225 lives
statewide.
To request your free smoke alarm please call the Madison County Fire
Department at 731-424-5577. Please contact your local fire department for
