Bradley Central High School Band Booster Club Member Indicted
An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of Crystal Lynn, who served as the concession manager for the Bradley Central High School Band Booster Club in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Investigators determined that Lynn misappropriated at least $2,069.59 from the booster club by making personal purchases between September 2021 and December 2021.
The booster club’s primary fundraiser is selling concessions during football games. As the concession manager, Lynn was responsible for purchasing concession items before each game. In addition to the concessions, Lynn also included personal items, including gift cards and clothing, with her purchases. She used a booster club check to make these purchases.
It should be noted that Lynn repaid the booster club $2,069.59 on December 13, 2021.
In addition to Lynn’s misappropriation, investigators also noted the booster club had other questionable and unsupported purchases totaling $904. These purchases were made by other members of the booster club, but they were not adequately documented with itemized receipts or invoices. Investigators could not determine if these purchases were made for the exclusive benefit of the club.
In February 2023, the Bradley County Grand Jury indicted Crystal Lynn on one count of theft over $1,000.
“Booster clubs must ensure they have adequate controls in place to safeguard money and property,” said Comptroller Mumpower. “In this case, the booster club allowed some checks to be signed before purchases were made, and they did not maintain adequate documentation to support all purchases. These controls help reduce the risk of improper transactions.”
