THREE PEOPLE INDICTED, CHARGED IN KINGSPORT OVERDOSE DEATH

THREE PEOPLE INDICTED, CHARGED IN KINGSPORT OVERDOSE DEATH

KINGSPORT – An investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Drug Related Death Task Force, the Kingsport Police Department, and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit has resulted in the indictment of two people in connection to an overdose death.

In February, TBI agents joined detectives with the Kingsport Police Department and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the suspected overdose death of Ashley N. Way (DOB: 6/2/92) after she was found deceased at an apartment in the 1200 block of Bloomingdale Pike in Kingsport. Her cause of death was determined to be an overdose caused by fentanyl intoxication. During the course of the investigation, authorities determined that Jamichale Wayne Fain (DOB: 9/3/88), Megan Danielle Newland (DOB: 3/30/89), and William Way (DOB: 7/2/67), the victim’s father, were responsible for providing the drugs that resulted in her death.

Last month, the Sullivan County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Jamichale Wayne Fain, Megan Danielle Newland, and William Way with one count of Second Degree Murder. Last week, they were arrested and booked into the Sullivan County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

The Drug Related Death Task Force in Sullivan County is a partnership between the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force, the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Bristol, TN Police Department, and Kingsport Police Department. The goal of the task force is to pursue those distributing deadly drug combinations that are resulting in epidemic levels of addiction and death in Northeast Tennessee. The task force receives funding through the Appalachia High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (AHIDTA) initiative, which uses a multi-disciplinary approach to address public health and safety issues that center around the opioid epidemic as well as other dangerous drug trends.
