MADISON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INCREASES IMPAIRED-DRIVING ENFORCEMENT
Madison County, TN, August 24, 2023 – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for its “Booze It and Lose It” campaign from now through September 4 th , surrounding the Labor Day holiday. This initiative coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization to increase impaired-driving enforcement nationwide.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will have an increased presence on our county roadways during this time. Through the departments increased DUI saturation patrols the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will increase their visibility and stop those who are driving intoxicated on roads throughout the county.
“Every day in the United States about 37 people needlessly have their lives taken by DUI related crashes” said Sgt. John Pinto. “These crashes and the loss of life are so preventable. As we approach the unofficial end of summer, we want everyone to have a good time but do so responsibly. If you plan on going out and drinking find a designated driver, contact a ride share service, or spend the night. Don’t put yourself and everyone else on the road at risk.”
Increased state and national messaging about the dangers of drunk driving, coupled with increased sobriety checkpoints and high visibility enforcement, aim to drastically reduce the number of drunk-driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities this year.
The consequences of a single DUI conviction for a first-time offender in the state of Tennessee may include costly fines, court costs, legal fees, jail time, mandatory drug and alcohol treatment, and/or the installation of an ignition interlock device in the vehicle.
The THSO provides grant funding to support the Madison County Sheriff’s Office increased enforcement efforts during the “Booze It and Lose It” campaign. For more information about the THSO, please visit www.tntrafficsafety.org.
