JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman was killed and two juveniles injured after a shooting last Thursday.
On January 25 at 9:30 p.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to a shooting at 157 Cloverdale Street.
Upon arrival, officers found 19-year-old Ayanna Bingham, a three-year-old male juvenile, and a seven-year-old male juvenile all with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victims were in the backseat of a white Ford Mustang during the shooting.
Bingham was pronounced dead on the scene due to her injuries, while the juvenile victims were both airlifted to a Memphis hospital.
A short time later, officers were dispatched to 104 Cloverdale Street about a man being shot.
According to a warrant, officers found Larell Collier with gunshot wounds to his legs.
He was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.
During the investigation, Collier was developed as a possible suspect.
On January 27th, Collier was interviewed by JPD after he was read his Miranda rights and agreed to talk.
During the interview, a warrant states Collier admitted to shooting Bingham in the head.
Collier also stated that he knew that juveniles were in the car.
Collier told police that while he was shooting, someone shot him in the back of his legs, and he then ran to his home at 104 Cloverdale.
The warrant states Collier then hid the gun in his grandmother’s room under her pillow, describing it as a Glock 19 9mm.
The gun was recovered during the execution of a search warrant.
Ayanna Bingham’s father, Tobious Blackwell, stated that his daughter was just picking up her friend and her kids.
“They were the ones out at the time and he just kind of lost it,” he said. Blackwell stated that this was so unexpected.
“He didn’t know her. He even stated that he didn’t know her. He had never seen her before. There hadn’t been any prior altercations or interactions with her,” Blackwell said.
Collier is currently being held without bond, with a court appearance scheduled for February 7.
