Mock disaster to take place at JSCC campus to teach nursing students emergency preparedness

   

WHO: JSCC Nursing Students and Faculty, Medical Center EMS, Jackson Police Department, JPD SWAT Team, Madison County Fire Department, Air Evac, and other agencies.

WHAT: Senior JSCC Nursing Students will undergo a mock disaster to learn how to perform medical care in various environments and situations alongside local emergency agencies. Scenarios in previous years have included explosions, tornado aftermath, active shooters and more. Students act in the role of first responders, victims, bystanders, secondary triage in an ER setting setup in a tent, and on-scene management. Ambulances, helicopter (weather permitting), fire trucks, and police presence will be on-scene for the event.

This year’s theme will be an active shooter scenario taking place at the softball field with 15 mock casualties and a total of 30 students involved.

WHEN: Monday, Nov. 7 the mock disaster will begin at 1 p.m., lasting 30 minutes to an hour.

WHERE: Softball Field at Jackson State Community College – Jackson Campus, 2046 North Parkway, Jackson, TN 38301

WEATHER: The event will be moved inside the JSCC Nursing Building in the event of inclement weather.
