FHU to Offer Symposium on Eating Disorders
Henderson, Tennessee — (Aug. 16, 2023) — More than 28 million Americans will be affected by an eating disorder in their lifetime. Effective treatment is sometimes difficult to find, especially in rural areas. To help fill that void, FHU’s University Counseling Center and Office of Graduate Admissions will host an Eating Disorders Symposium on Friday, Sept. 8, in Ayers Auditorium in FHU’s Brown Kopel Business Center, located on Main Street in Henderson, Tennessee.
Sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. Presenters include Dawn Dillon, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor; Becky Mehr, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist-Supervisor (CEDS-S); and Dr. Laurie Cooper, licensed psychologist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist-Supervisor.
Tickets to the symposium are $75 each plus $5.39 tax and fees. A group of five from the same organization may purchase tickets for $300. Lunch is included in the ticket price. Participants, who must be at least 18 years old, may earn 4.5 continuing education credits. Dillon has more than 20 years of experience treating eating disorders in an outpatient practice setting. In addition, she has provided professional consultation and counseling services for eating disorder clients in private and public university counseling centers. In session one, she will discuss “Fundamentals of Outpatient Treatment of Eating Disorders.” Dillon and Mehr will team up for session two, where they will discuss "Debunking Diet Myths and Nutritional Complications from Disordered Eating/ED." Mehr has been a registered dietitian for more than 20 years and has 15 years of experience dealing with eating disorders. Finally, Cooper, with more than 25 years as a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, will discuss “Treatment and Advocacy for those Impacted by Eating Disorders.”
FHU offers the Doctor of Behavioral Health, the Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling and the Master of Science in school counseling.
