FAME holds inaugural convening of Technical Advisory Council

JACKSON, TENN. – Jackson State Community College’s (JSCC) completion coordinator for the Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) Co-op, Catherine Roberts, was recently inducted into the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) Technical Advisory Council.

The FAME Technical Advisory Council aims to enhance the effectiveness of FAME USA programs nationwide by providing a platform for industry experts to collaborate and make informed decisions to ensure its programs align with the needs of the industry. The council met for its inaugural convening at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) headquarters in Washington, D.C. in August. Roberts, who coordinates the FAME USA programs for JSCC, was in attendance.

“It was heartening to see so many passionate industry workers and educators at the convening to encourage the education of our future manufacturers,” said Roberts. “Our students are the future of our industries, and to see a room full of people that value the importance of a quality education for our students really reinforced the work being done through FAME USA. Our students go on to join industries at the local, regional, and global levels and it’s through the efforts of FAME USA that students will receive a top-tier education to set them up for success.”

FAME USA provides workforce development to those earning degrees in manufacturing and related fields through technical training, integration of manufacturing core competencies, professional practices, and hands-on experience. FAME USA currently has educational programs in 12 states and is consistently looking to expand its reach across the country.

Jackson State’s AMT Co-op, which was the seventh FAME USA chapter in the nation, offers students the opportunity to earn a wage and valuable work experience while earning their degree through a blend of classroom instruction and on-site manufacturing experience at various West Tennessee industry consortium partners.

Roberts will serve as a member of the Administration committee for the Technical Advisory Council. This committee will bring expertise to address topics like recruitment, success coaching, and chapter management. She is also assisting the technical council by serving on the orientation and training sub-committee. This appointment to the FAME Technical Advisory Council will enhance JSCC’s programs along with the programs of those across the country.
