JSCC open house well attended
Jackson, Tenn. (Dec. 15, 2016) – Jackson State Community College staff and local government officials welcomed area residents to the college’s new educational site in Paris, Tenn. on Wednesday. The Central Community Service Center, at 55 Jones Bend Rd., was open for people to see what opportunities will be available to them beginning with the spring semester, which begins in January.
JSCC will start with an offering of 20 classes in Paris for the spring semester. The initial offering in Paris includes courses in business, math, humanities, social/behavioral sciences, and science. Courses for the emergency medical technician curriculum will also be offered. Registration for the spring term is currently ongoing. Students not currently admitted to the college should visit www.jscc.edu/apply or call 731-425-8844 for details regarding admission.
Nearly 110 prospective students attended the event, and many of them filled out the admissions application, said Dean for Academic Support Patrick Davis. “Support for this event by JSCC faculty and staff has been great, and enough cannot be said about the level of support received from Paris and Henry County government officials.”
Besides the large public turnout for the open house, 23 city and county officials attended the event. City and county mayors Carlton Jerrell and Brent Greer, respectively, along with staff and chamber officials, came out in support of the educational site.
There was a consensus by attendees in the excitement and future prospects for the Jackson State in the area. “This makes us a more complete community,” said Jerrell, “and it's going to enhance our economic impact by providing opportunities for people to get jobs and make the community better.”
“We are so happy to finally provide these much-needed services to Northwest Tennessee,” said Dr. Larry Bailey, vice president of academic affairs. “These are baby steps, but by next fall we hope to have a presence in Paris of which the community can truly be proud.”
