Lane College announces the 2016 Annual Homecoming Celebration to be held October 2-9, 2016. Alumni and friends will travel from all over the country to enjoy this year’s Homecoming with a theme – “The Greatest Since 1882.”
Events are planned throughout the week culminating on Saturday, October 8 with the Homecoming Parade, tailgating extravaganza and football game. The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m., and will include floats, bands and organizations.
The College is excited to announce that the Parade Marshal this year is Kinna Thomas, a 2000 Lane College Graduate, the innovator behind the holiday season’s biggest craze, Walmart’s “Patti Pies.” Within two weeks of starting her position as Senior Buyer for Cakes and Pies at Walmart Stores Inc., Kinna birthed the brainchild of her family sweet potato pie recipe, mixed with a few ingredients and fame from R & B singer Patti Labelle. The pies literally flew off the shelves, making history in the grocery retail market.
“The College is thrilled to be able to celebrate the accomplishments of our distinguished graduate, as she leads us in our Homecoming celebration, exclaims Homecoming chair, Tori Haliburton. Kinna is one example of 134 years of Lane graduates making a difference in the world. We are so excited to celebrate with her and all the other alumni of Lane during this fun-filled week.”
Parade and tailgate applications may be picked up on the campus in the Office of Institutional Advancement, or downloaded from homepage of the website, www.lanecollege.edu.
