U.S. Attorney Stanton Scheduled to Speak at MLK Luncheon
Dyersburg, Tennessee – Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) and the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce have announced that United States Attorney Edward L. Stanton III will be the guest speaker during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Luncheon at noon Jan. 12 inside the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus.
Tickets for the luncheon are $10 each and must be purchased in advance by Jan. 10 at the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce or at the DSCC Business Office located in the Eller Administration Building.
Edward L. Stanton III is a lifelong Memphian and graduate of Central High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Memphis in 1994 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1997.
In 2010, President Barack Obama nominated Stanton for the position of United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. In this position, Stanton is the chief federal law enforcement officer within the 22 counties that comprise the Western District of Tennessee.
As United States Attorney, Stanton has launched a number of highly successful initiatives including forming a dedicated Civil Rights Unit which has become a nationally recognized leader for its efforts in prosecuting sex trafficking crimes.
In 2005, Stanton received the Memphis Bar Association’s Sam A. Myar, Jr. Award, one of the highest honors the Association bestows annually upon a lawyer for outstanding legal and community service.
