Southwest Tennessee Development District is hosting the Tennessee Senior Brain Games for the southwest portion of the state (encompassing the counties of Chester, Decatur, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, and McNairy) on Friday, August 25th at 10:30 a.m. at Southwest Tennessee Development District, 102 E. College Street in Jackson.

At this competition, twelve four-person teams (three people plus an alternate on each team) from across the southwest Tennessee region will compete to win the District title and for an opportunity to participate in the West Tennessee Regional Brain Games at SWTDD on September 8th. The Regional Brain Games will include teams from Northwest Tennessee (including Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion and Weakley counties) and the Memphis Region (which includes Fayette, Lauderdale, Shelby and Tipton counties).

The media from across West Tennessee is invited to capture images of a room full of senior citizens laughing, answering trivia questions, and competing for the district title on August 25th – and on Sept. 8th – ass the competition continues for the “Regional Champion” title that includes an opportunity to continue and compete against the East and Middle Tennessee regional champs.

What Are the Senior Brain Games?

An active brain is more likely to be a healthy brain. The science is still catching up, but common sense tells us that as we age it's important to keep challenging ourselves, to keep learning new things. It's also important to spend time with other people. Brain Games meets both goals by giving seniors yet another reason to attend one of Tennessee's many great senior centers.

People of all ages enjoy trivia games. At a senior center, you can play for fun with other people in your area. You may also find others willing to play on a team and compete for the title of Tennessee Senior Brain Games State Champions!
