6th Annual Follow Me Celebrity Golf Classic
Tommy Sadler, Union University athletic director and team captain, was the biggest winner at the 6th Follow Me Celebrity Golf Classic on September 13 at Bent Tree Golf Course. First, he won his bid for the Eli Manning football and then his golf team became the 2016 Tournament Champions.
Thanks to Co-Chairs Ted Austin of Jackson Energy Authority andCharley Deal of the University of Tennessee at Martin, we continued to reach new heights with this event which raises funds for our Follow Me Into Business youth development program that provides free workforce development training for ages 12-18 and summer jobs for the 16-18 year olds.
Top 8 Reasons was the Best Golf Classic Yet
- There were 18 teams, one on each hole for the four-player scramble.
- There were real celebrities: Former NFL Buffalo Bills DB and Lane College Athletic Director/Head Coach Derrick Burroughs brought three friends -- Howard Ballard (Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks), Dorsett Davis (Denver Broncos) and Reggie Howard (Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers).
- The silent auction had hot items -- football memorabilia, Disney World passes, hotel stays and more.
- Breakfast was served -- delicious hot coffee andChick-Fil-Aminis.
- The five plant managers (all heads major area manufacturers) were genuinely pleased to be recognized. These Celebrity for the Day honorees were Ricardo Anawate of Gerdau, Shawn Daly of Toyota Bodine Aluminum, Andre Gist of MIG Steel Fabrication,Mike Pace of Pinnacle Foods, and Swee Har Wilcox of Armstrong Flooring.
- Other team winners were in the First Flight were Raymond James in 2nd Place and Lane College in 3rd Place.
- Winners teams for the Second Flight were JEA #1 in st Place, First Bank (with mayor Charles Farmer, Wayne Nix, Don Morris and James Orman) in 2nd Place and West Tennessee Healthcare in 3rd Place.
- Hats off to the winning Union University team which included Andy Rushing, Mike Hopper and Clay Mallard in addition to Tommy Sadler.
