City of Newbern Team Declared Overall Winner of Ed Lannom Memorial Golf Tournament
Dyersburg, Tennessee – The winning team of the City of Newbern claimed the traveling crystal cup for the first time ever during Dyersburg State Community College’s (DSCC) annual Ed Lannom, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament Sept. 9 at the Farms Golf Club in Dyersburg.
Eighteen teams participated in the annual event led by co-directors Larry White from White and Associates Insurance and Patrick Williams from Johnson-Williams Funeral Home. DSCC President Karen Bowyer served as the presidential putter throughout the day on the eighteenth green.
Tournament winners were recognized in two flights of play along with winners of special contests including a closest to the pin contest, a longest drive contest, and a putting contest. A $1 million hole-in-one contest was sponsored for the third year in a row by The Farms Golf Club. New this year was the “Eagle Swing” in which golfers purchased a chance for a member of DSCC’s baseball or softball team to take the first swing with a bat from the #14 hole.
Bill Reno made the longest drive of the day while Dylan Parker and J.D. Cowan were the closest-to-the-pin contest winners, making them both eligible to play for the $1 million hole-in-one contest. Although both made respectable drives for the grand prize, both came up short in the end. In addition to this contest, the top golfer who was closest to the pin on hole number 9 was Jeff Agee. All contest winners received a free round of golf sponsored by The Farms Golf Club.
