GENERALS TO PLAY JACKSON STATE IN PRESEASON EXHIBITION
Brand new squad will play under the lights prior to Opening Night, Tickets just $5
Jackson, Tenn. – Thursday, April 6 is Opening Night, but baseball fans in West Tennessee will have an opportunity to see the Jackson Generals play a little earlier this year. The Generals will take on Jackson State Community College in a seven-inning exhibition contest Tuesday, April 4 at 6:05 pm. Fans can see the 2017 team before the season starts for just $5, with all proceeds going to the Generals Care Foundation.
The exhibition will be seven innings in length, and the Generals will do all of the pitching. Music will be playing throughout the contest, as the Generals prepare for their season while the JSCC players get a chance to face off against professionals. The scrimmage will serve as a “dress rehearsal” under the lights before Southern League play starts.
“It’ll give our guys a chance to make some friends as they get ready to have a nice stay in Jackson during the summer,” Jackson Manager J.R. House said. “I hope it brings everybody together.”
It won’t be a typical game, as House wants a controlled environment to get his team ready for the regular season. The Generals will practice executing in different situations, and coaches will be providing instruction throughout.
Jackson State Head Coach Tyson Malik is looking forward to the unique opportunity this will provide to his team and for the community as a whole.
“Our guys are excited. It’ll be really good for them to see how players at a high level go about their business and do things on game days,” Malik said. “I hope we get a lot of the community out to The Ballpark to see that there is good baseball in Jackson.”
All seating for the exhibition will be general admission. Any and all fans can come for just $5, with all proceeds going to the Generals Care Foundation. The Southern League season begins just two nights later with the Generals looking to defend their crown.
