Bolivar Native Returns To Give Back

Professional Tennis Coach Lonnie Wooden will return to his native home of Bolivar, Tennessee to conduct a Tennis Camp on July 6 thru July 9, 2021 at Bolivar Central High School, where he nostalgically attended years ago.

The Camp is being sponsored by the community organization “Build A Better Bolivar” of which Hardeman County Schools, D.A.R.E., Bolivar Housing Authority, and Bolivar City Hall are all key components in an effort to “BUILD” underprivileged youth within the community.

Lonnie Wooden’s strong interest in youth provided the motivation to become founder of Innovative Sports and Education Academy, Inc. In 2015. With over 25 years of experience as a tennis professional and Coach , he is recognized as an innovator who has unique leadership, administrative, and coaching skills. These attributes have proven impactful in making a difference in the lives of so many youth as well as adults throughout the Midwest.

In the fall of 1991, seven African-American women made history at Chicago State University under the direction of then, head Tennis Coach Lonnie Wooden. These amazing ladies were undefeated by completing a 20-0 fall season. After more than 25 years, this historic accomplishment remains unprecedented!

As current head Coach at Merrillville High School (Indiana) and through his Non-Profit Foundation ISEA ,Mr. Wooden’s goal is to promote tennis for the purpose of encouraging, advancing performance, and experiencing a healthier lifestyle. His overall mission is to establish a solid foundation in tennis, education and life!

“When it comes to giving back to the community, any action big or small can make a difference. I have committed to making a positive change in Hardeman County. Our task is to get on a more equitable, fair, inclusive, and hopeful path forward.” Coach Lonnie Wooden
