SECOND DEGREE MURDER SUSPECT FROM SHELBY COUNTY

CAPTURED BY U.S. MARSHALS IN MICHIGAN.

Memphis, Tennessee – U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller announces the capture of Rodney

Berry Jr., in Michigan, for Second Degree Murder, Convicted Felon in Possession of a

Handgun, and Possessing a Firearm during commission of a felony out of Shelby County.

On September 16, 2021, Memphis police officers responded to a shooting at North

Trezevant Street. A male was located on the front porch with a gunshot wound to the

upper thigh.

Berry allegedly shot the victim, Kevin Randolph, in the leg while he was on the front

porch. Berry then fled the scene. Randolph was transported to Regional One Medical

Center by the Memphis Fire Department, and he was pronounced deceased at the

hospital.

Warrants were issued for Rodney Berry out of Shelby County for Second Degree Murder,

Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun, and Possessing a Firearm during

commission of a felony out of Shelby County.

On September 17, 2021, The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force

(TRVFTF) in Memphis adopted the case out of Shelby County. The TRVFTF developed

information that Berry was in Michigan.

Working in conjunction with U.S. Marshals in Detroit, Michigan, Berry was located and

taken into custody without incident. Berry is awaiting extradition to Shelby County.

U.S. Marshal Tyreese Miller stated, “The Marshals Service will continue to work with

our state and local partners to locate and apprehend violent fugitives on the run.”

The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force is a multi-agency task force within Western

Tennessee. The Western Tennessee Division of the TRVFTF has offices in Memphis and Jackson, and

its membership is primarily composed of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies,

Memphis Police Officers, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jackson Police Officers, and the

Tennessee Department of Corrections Special Agents. The primary mission of the Task Force is to

arrest violent offenders and sexual predators.
