JMCSS releases Board approved calendar for 2022-2023

JMCSS releases Board approved calendar for 2022-2023

New school year begins Monday, August 1 for teachers, August 8 for students

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson-Madison County School System teachers will have a full week to prepare for the fall semester as professional development opportunities have increased in the 2022-2023 school calendar. Teachers will report for duty on Monday, August 1, to begin preparations while students report for class a week later on Monday, August 8.

“This is a change from the traditional calendar. The new format provides time for professional support and training. It also gives teachers additional time alone in their classrooms because there’s a lot to do to get a classroom ready for students,” said Catherine Korth, Chief Accountability & Assessment Officer for JMCSS.

Thanksgiving remains a week-long holiday while Christmas break remains two weeks long. A total of six after school sessions (RF) have also been added throughout the school calendar to allow time for principals and teachers to collaborate on school climate and culture initiatives as needed during the fall and spring semesters.

“Scheduled time on the calendar to regroup and discuss school culture and safety expectations as a staff will help improve learning outcomes. These regular intervals of teacher feedback will assist principals in maintaining effective school environments,” JMCSS Deputy Superintendent of Academics, Students, and Schools Dr. Vivian Williams said.

The week-long spring break for 2023 begins on Monday, March 13. Meanwhile, Friday, May 26, 2023 will mark the final day of the spring semester, which is a half day for students.

“We’re encouraging our families, as well as our employees, to familiarize themselves with the various days, like parent-teacher conferences. The six extended days for teachers is new, so our educators will want to make a note of those RF listings,” Dr. Williams said.

The 2022-2023 calendar is available at jmcss.org and can be viewed by clicking the calendar icon on the homepage. The document can be downloaded as well.
