TENNESSEE GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL STUDENTS SET TO ARRIVE AT UT MARTIN

MARTIN, Tenn. – The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences begins on

May 28 at the University of Tennessee at Martin, and the Tennessee Governor’s School for the

Humanities begins the following Sunday, June 5.

Both programs bring selected high school students from across the state to UT Martin to take

college courses and participate in a variety of activities. Interested students must complete an

application process and receive an invitation to attend. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the

Agricultural Sciences has 35 participants, and the Tennessee Governor’s School for the

Humanities anticipates 54 to attend.

The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences is one of only three agriculture

governor’s schools in the country. The program exposes students to courses in natural resource

management and animal science and provides opportunities for hands-on interactions with

working crop and livestock operations.

The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities, founded in 1986, is the original

governor’s school program. Students may receive college credit in art history, political science or

philosophy and choose from additional non-credit courses in English literature, history, music,

diplomacy, and a selection of four enrichment seminar activities.
