FHU’s Bobbie Solley Center for Excellence in Teaching Hosting Dr. Jackie Walsh to Support Educators

Henderson, Tennessee — (Sept. 14, 2023) — In keeping with Freed-Hardeman’s reputation for continued lifelong education, the university will soon offer further opportunities for teachers to sharpen their skills in the classroom. As it has done for the past few years, the Bobbie Solley Center for Excellence in Teaching will once again offer top quality professional development for educators this fall.

In October, the center will host two virtual sessions presented by Dr. Jackie Walsh, author of “Empowering Students as Questioners: Skills, Strategies, and Structures to Realize the Potential of Every Learner.”

Dr. Walsh’s presentation, entitled “Learning Happens When Students Question!”, will be offered twice and will be individualized for the needs of two different groups of educators. She will present to an audience of secondary and post-secondary educators on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 3:15-4:15 (CT), while a presentation geared toward elementary educators will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 3:15-4:15 (CT).

With a career in teaching and supporting teachers, Sarah Hibbett, director of the Bobbie Solley Center for Excellence in Teaching, leads the FHU center in finding relevant and useful topics for educators. “Dr. Walsh's vast experience in education is evident in the innovative pedagogical methods she advocates,” Hibbett said. “Her clear-cut approach allows educators to walk away with ideas that can be used tomorrow… or even next period!”

Educators from across the country can appreciate the ease and flexibility of Bobbie Solley sessions, which are routinely offered virtually so that all educators can benefit, regardless of where they live and work. “The online meeting options presented by BSCET were my preference for professional development when I was a classroom teacher,” said Diane Griffin, of Nashville, Tennessee. “The sessions offered great ideas for the incorporation of practical methods within the classroom, and, best of all, I was even able to participate while in my classroom at the end of the school day.”

Each session is offered free of charge. Once enrolled, registrants will receive an email containing the online meeting link. After attending a complete session, participants will be emailed a personalized certificate of completion.
