Tyrone Givens, author of the The Bennu Project

Dayton, OH (BlackNews.com) -- Award-winning author, Tyrone Givens, hosts the virtual launch of his 5-star novel, The Bennu Project which was written to thwart diminishing confidence in youth. The online event includes blog posts, interviews and a Facebook chat. The complete virtual tour is available at TheBennuProject.com (www.thebennuproject.com).

Givens says, "As a homeschool educator, I struggled to find a way to teach my sons historical facts while keeping their attention. My attempts to find literature about social justice heroes that was more than biographical or reference material were unsuccessful. As a result, I merged one of our favorite topics - science fiction - with one of my favorites - pre-colonial Africa - and The Bennu Project was born." Givens also permeated the storyline with his experience as a multi-lingual pilot to teach facts and promote awareness.

Givens conducted extensive research to develop the characters, geographic references and plot of the novel. He blended topics like those found in The Destruction of Black Civilizationby Dr. Chancellor Williams and Civilization or Barbarism by Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop with a fun-to-read post-apocalyptic narrative. The Bennu Project has been compared to Octavia Butler's novel, Dawn, which has a strong, African American female protagonist and anti-Eurocentric cradle of civilization viewpoints. His efforts have resulted in only five-star reviews on Amazon (www.amazon.com/author/aha-mena) and winning the 2017 Dayton Book Expo Top-Selling Fiction Award (www.daytonbookexpo.com).

What Readers Say about The Bennu Project:

"We often hear the lament that not enough talented individuals of color combat the negative mischaracterizations of our society with contributions for social uplift. The Bennu Project is a veritable treasury of historically relevant and positive aspects of Afrocentrism set against the backdrop of science fiction. This noteworthy cultural contribution - evidenced by inclusion in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture - is filled with lucid insights that encourage self-reflection, communal liberation and global impact.” -- Dr. Timothy Moss, leadership consultant and author of Clear Vision in a Dark Place
