NAACP Hosted a Family Cooking/Eating Workshop

The Jackson Madison County Branch NAACP Health Committee hosted a "Family Cooking/Eating Workshop", Saturday, October 22, 2016 @ The LIFT Wellness Center downtown Jackson. Five family groups prepared and cooked five different delicious healthy dishes; then they enjoyed the fruit of their labor. The menu included: Sweet Herbed Oven-Fried Chicken; Brown Rice W/ Onion & Red Peppers; Green Bean Casserole; Apricot Waldorf Salad; and Healthy Dark Chocolate Chunk Oatmeal Cookie Bars. Thanks to Dr. Amy Elizer who served as the cooking instructor. She provided tips on building a healthy plat, reading food labels, portion sizes and much more. Participants voiced enjoyment and a determination to prepare more healthy dishes. Who said healthy foods can't the fun to prepare and delicious to eat?
