(January 4, 2017, Jackson, TN) - It has been determined that the roof at Whitehall has received
substantial damages that will require extensive work. While the water leakage has been cleaned from
the floor, the unpredictable weather conditions are not conducive to an immediate roof repair or
replacement solution at this time. The roof will take some time to repair and none of the repairs can be
completed quickly. As a result of this examination and after consulting with roofers and our insurance
company, a significant amount of time will be needed to restore Whitehall Pre-K Center in a manner that
will be safe and conducive for learning. It is necessary to relocate our current Whitehall Pre-K students to
another facility in JMCSS.
It has been decided that the Pre-K classes will be held at our Nova School facility located at 248 Bedford
White Road. Work has begun at each facility in preparation for classes to begin on Wednesday, January
18th at the Nova School facility. The following timeline has been developed to ensure the January 18th
class start date:
January 6: 8:00 am - Whitehall staff will report to the Whitehall facility to receive instructions for
packing their classrooms and begin evaluating classroom contents that can be packed or need to
be replaced.
January 6-8: Nova School facility cleaning completed and prepared to receive Whitehall
contents.
January 9,10 & 11: Whitehall staff will complete packing of classrooms and labeling for move
January 12 & 13: Classroom materials begin to be moved from Whitehall to Nova. Teachers will
report to Nova School facility to begin classroom set up as materials arrive from movers.
January 16: Schools closed for MLK Holiday
January 17: 8:00 am – Teachers report to Nova School to complete classroom set up and
finalize first day instructions for the new facility. Open House will be held from 2pm – 4pm for any
parents that would like to view the facility prior to the first school day.
January 18: 8:15 am - Whitehall Pre-K students to report to Nova School for the first day of 2nd
semester classes.
Special Education students already receiving transportation service will continue to receive transportation
service and will be dropped off at Nova. District staff and Whitehall staff are also working to provide a
shuttle service for students that will need transportation from Whitehall to Nova. Parents will be provided
additional information and instructions prior to the first day of classes.
The district will keep parents updated through our parent notification system, local media outlets, social
media and the district webpage for updates as we receive additional information. For additional questions
or concerns, please contact Ginger Carver at (731) 215-2686.
