(Nashville) – State Senator Ed Jackson (R-Jackson) announced today that his district will be receiving a total of $760,000 for the West Tennessee River Basin Authority. This money was included in Governor Bill Haslam’s supplemental budget amendments submitted to the General Assembly this week.
“The West Tennessee River Basin Authority plays an important role in maintaining rivers in West Tennessee which provide economic and environmental benefits, as well as providing much needed flood control,” said Senator Jackson. “These funds will ensure West Tennessee rivers remain clean, functional and continue to bring great value to our state.”
The amendments include $400,000 in recurring funds to go towards maintenance and $230,000 in recurring and $130,000 in nonrecurring funds to go towards operations.
The supplemental proposal will be voted on during the coming weeks as the budget is considered for passage by the Finance, Ways and Means Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives, and then the full General Assembly for a final vote.
The West Tennessee River Basin Authority is created and established within the Department of Environment and Conservation and is created to preserve the natural flow and function of the Hatchie, Loosahatchie, Obion, and Forked Deer River basins through environmentally sensitive stream maintenance. The Authority services the twenty-county area of West Tennessee comprised of Lauderdale, Lake, Dyer, Obion, Madison, Weakley, Henry, Gibson, Carroll, Benton, Decatur, Hardin, Haywood, Crockett, Henderson, Chester, McNairy, Tipton, Fayette and Hardeman Counties.
