Governor Haslam to Speak at FHU/Dickson’s American Values Forum
Dickson, Tennessee, (Jan. 8, 2019)--Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam will be the featured speaker Feb. 28, 2019, at FHU/Dickson’s American Values Forum Scholarship Dinner. The annual event raises funds for scholarships for students finishing their baccalaureate degrees at FHU/Dickson.
The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by entertainment by The Danberrys, a husband-wife duo from Nashville, at 6:45 p.m. Haslam is scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. Entertainment and speech will be in the Renaissance Center’s Performance Hall.
Haslam will complete his second term as governor of Tennessee Jan. 19, 2019. During his tenure, Tennessee students have become the nation’s fastest improving in academic achievement and high school graduation rates are at an all-time high. Tennessee was the first state in the nation to offer two years of free community or technical college to high school graduates and adults.
In addition, approximately 450,000 private sector jobs have been created since Haslam took office in 2011. In 2017 Tennessee’s unemployment rate reached its lowest level in state history.
The governor worked with the Tennessee General Assembly to pass the largest tax cut in Tennessee history to deliver a safe, reliable and debt-free transportation system. The governor and his administration have cut more than $575 million in recurring spending, shrunk state government, balanced the budget every year, and more than tripled the state’s savings account. Tennessee has been awarded a triple A bond rating for two years.
The Danberrys are comprised of Ben DeBerry and Dorothy Daniel, songwriters and performers. Their music draws from the traditions of bluegrass, old-time country, blues and funk/soul.
FHU/Dickson is the only baccalaureate educational institution in Dickson County. It provides junior and senior level classes for transfer students and graduate degrees for those who have already completed baccalaureate degrees.
