Local DAR Day of Service for The Safe Hope House
Members of Jackson-Madison Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution [NSDAR] will volunteer this Thursday, October 11, at The Safe Hope House on Roland Avenue. They will be participating in the National DAR Day of Service to commemorate the 129th anniversary of the founding of NSDAR on October 11, 1890. DAR members across the country and in countries overseas will perform community service this day.
At 3:30 p.m., local members will deliver items from the Wish List to The Safe Hope House. This center, sponsored by WRAP and the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, is a resource center for victims of sexual and domestic violence.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 185,000 members in approximately 3, 000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. DAR is non-partisan and non-political, and welcomes any woman, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot.
Jackson-Madison Chapter NSDAR was organized on June 14, 1901, and is one of the oldest and most active chapters in the state of Tennessee.
