Health Department to Host Walk-In Flu Clinic
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will host a
walk-in flu clinic on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Patients do not need an
appointment to get a flu shot that day.
Please bring an ID and your insurance card. This is not a free flu clinic. Patients not up to
date on immunizations will also have the opportunity to get their vaccinations.
One child died in Tennessee from flu during the 2018-2019 flu season, according to the
Tennessee Department of Health. Eleven Tennessee children and one pregnant woman died
from flu during the 2017-2018 flu season. Two children in Tennessee died from flu in the
2016-2017 flu season. In the 2015-2016 flu season, three children and one pregnant woman
died from flu in Tennessee.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone six months of age
and older get a flu vaccine every year before flu activity begins. CDC recommends getting
vaccinated by the end of October.
People can take other steps to help prevent spreading the flu. Try to avoid close contact with
sick people. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Wash your
hands often with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Clean and
disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
“Flu shots, along with proper hand washing and overall good hygiene, are the only way we
have of protecting ourselves and others against some of the many strains of influenza,”
Epidemiologist Shanna Shearon Wilbanks said.
The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department offers flu shots Monday through
