HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO OFFER FREE FLU SHOTS NOVEMBER 19
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will offer
free flu vaccines on Tuesday, Nov. 19 during a special “FightFluTN” vaccination event.
The free flu shots will be available at the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health
Department from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while supplies last. You do not need an appointment or
insurance to get a free flu shot that day. Please park on the back side of the building and
come in the administrative entrance.
One child died in Tennessee from flu during the 2018-2019 flu season, according to the
Tennessee Department of Health. Eleven Tennessee children and one pregnant woman died
from flu during the 2017-2018 flu season. Two children in Tennessee died from flu in the
2016-2017 flu season. In the 2015-2016 flu season, three children and one pregnant woman
died from flu in Tennessee.
The Centers and Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone six months of
age and older get a flu vaccine every year. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants,
young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical
conditions.
Immunization against the flu protects the person receiving the vaccine and his or her family,
friends, and coworkers.
“Flu shots, along with proper hand washing and overall good hygiene, are the only way we
have of protecting ourselves and others against some of the many strains of influenza,”
Epidemiologist Shanna Shearon Wilbanks said.
