JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will offer

The free flu shots will be available at the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health

Department from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while supplies last. You do not need an appointment or

One child died in Tennessee from flu during the 2018-2019 flu season, according to the

Tennessee Department of Health. Eleven Tennessee children and one pregnant woman died

from flu during the 2017-2018 flu season. Two children in Tennessee died from flu in the

2016-2017 flu season. In the 2015-2016 flu season, three children and one pregnant woman

died from flu in Tennessee.

The Centers and Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone six months of

age and older get a flu vaccine every year. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants,

young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical

conditions.

Immunization against the flu protects the person receiving the vaccine and his or her family,

friends, and coworkers.

“Flu shots, along with proper hand washing and overall good hygiene, are the only way we

have of protecting ourselves and others against some of the many strains of influenza,”

Epidemiologist Shanna Shearon Wilbanks said.

Call the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department at 731-423-3020 if you have

questions about the flu vaccine.
