Memorial Day

Memorial Day

“United States Code, Title 36

Chapter 10, Patriotic Customs

Section 174 (d)  The flag should be displayed on all days, especially……Memorial Day (half staff until noon)…..”

Just a reminder that on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2021, the American flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously to half staff until noon.  The flag may then be hoisted to full staff until sunset.

Please consider observing the 3:00 p.m. “National Moment of Remembrance” on Memorial Day.  This is an event established by Congress, asking Americans, wherever they are at 3:00 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day, to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of two minutes. The time 3:00 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying their freedoms on the national holiday. The Moment does not replace traditional Memorial Day events; rather, it is an act of national unity in which all Americans, alone or with family and friends, honor those who died in service to the United States.
