Last Week to View 2021 DAR Field of Flags
These are the final days to view the Jackson-Madison Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s 2021 Field of Flags in Triangle Park in downtown Jackson. Triangle Park, located at the intersection of Airways Boulevard, Main Street and Lafayette Street, has been the site of this annual flag display since June 2006. This year 179 flags were installed to honor the Revolutionary War patriots of Madison County residents. Each 13-star “Betsy Ross” flag is dedicated to a Revolutionary War patriot and is identified with a sign noting the patriot’s name and colony of service.
The Field of Flags was installed on June 5th prior to Flag Day, June 14th, and will remain in place through Independence Day, July 4th. Flags will be removed on Saturday, July 10, 2021.
Jackson-Madison Chapter NSDAR was organized on Flag Day, June 14, 1901, and is one of the oldest and most active chapters in the state of Tennessee. The DAR Field of Flags is installed each year to honor our Revolutionary War patriots and to celebrate the anniversary of the organizing of the chapter in 1901.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 185,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. DAR is non-partisan and non-political, and welcomes any woman, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot.
