DAR Celebrates Constitution Week

             Constitution Week is celebrated annually on September 17-23.  2022 will be the 235th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

            Jackson-Madison Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) will commemorate national Constitution Week during their chapter meeting on Thursday, September 15, with a reading of the Bill of Rights to the U. S. Constitution. Chapter members will read the first 10 Amendments to the U. S. Constitution.  Honored guest will be Jackson City Mayor Scott Conger. Keynote speaker will be U S Magistrate Judge Jon York. The meeting will be held at VFW Post 6496 on Airways Blvd. in Jackson. 

            Following the reading of the Constitution, bells will be rung at 3:00 p.m. to celebrate the signing of the U. S. Constitution in 1787.    

            Bells Across America will officially commemorate the signing of the U. S. Constitution on Saturday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. local time. Ring small bells, large bells, glass bells, brass bells, wooden bells, porcelain bells, jingle bells.  Let the sound of freedom ring throughout our city and county during Constitution Week on September 17, 2022.

            In addition, display cases in the downtown Jackson Madison County Library will have library display cases with Constitution week materials throughout September.

             The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 185,000 members in approximately 3, 000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. DAR is non-partisan and non-political, and welcomes any woman, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot.

            The Jackson-Madison Chapter was founded in June 1901 and is one of the oldest and most active chapters in the state of Tennessee.
