Jackson, TN – December 12, 2024 – The Jackson Fire Department is proud to announce its recent approval by the Tennessee State EMS Board to conduct an in-house Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic training program. This milestone makes the Jackson Fire Department the fifth department in the state to receive this prestigious authorization.
This approval represents a significant step forward in enhancing the department’s capabilities and ensuring the safety and well-being of Jackson’s citizens. By hosting the EMT Basic program in-house, the Jackson Fire Department will be able to:
Train New EMTs More Efficiently: Conducting the program internally allows the department to streamline the training process, ensuring that new EMTs are ready to serve the community more quickly.
Tailor Training to Local Needs: The program can be customized to address the specific needs of Jackson and surrounding areas, resulting in a workforce better prepared for local emergency incidents.
Reduce Training Costs: The in-house program eliminates the need for personnel to travel for training, reducing expenses and increasing accessibility for department members.
For the citizens of Jackson, this approval translates into improved emergency medical services, faster response times, and a continued commitment to providing the highest level of care during emergencies. As one of only five departments in Tennessee with this distinction, the Jackson Fire Department is setting a new standard of excellence in public safety and emergency preparedness.
“We are honored to be among the few departments in Tennessee to receive this approval,” said Matt Jones, EMS Division Chief of the Jackson Fire Department. “This opportunity strengthens our ability to train and equip our personnel while reaffirming our commitment to the health and safety of our community.
The Jackson Fire Department’s in-house EMT Basic program will begin immediately. We currently have four recruit firefighters who will comprise our first EMT-Basic class.
