City of Jackson announces new Recycling Coordinator

JACKSON, Tenn. – Derek Marshall will serve as the new City of Jackson, TN Recycling Center Coordinator.

Marshall, a native of Jackson, TN, graduated from Jackson Central-Merry Academy of Medical Technology. Derek earned an Associate of Science in Organizational Leadership from Union University and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Capella University.

"I feel honored and privileged to be employed by the City of Jackson, my lifelong home. My top priority has always been to contribute to finding solutions,” said Marshall. “I am committed to furthering the growth of the Recycling program and increasing awareness within our community."

The mission of the Recycling Program’s mission is to educate and provide cost-effective opportunities to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste in a sustainable manner in the city of Jackson and to encourage citizens to “re-think” outside the trash.

The Jackson Recycle Center procedures and best practices are of importance as the center will be impacted by several variables including contamination, weather, absence of operators, and the ability to timely empty bins. The recommended operations schedule and procedures detailed here will help keep the recycling center efficient, effective, and environmentally safe.

"We are thrilled to have Derek on board as our new Recycling Coordinator and look forward to the work and ideas he has to further our initiative,” said Leilani Mills, Director of City of Jackson, TN’s Health and Sanitation Department.

Greater Than You Can Imagine

As Women’s History Month reaches its midpoint,  I reflect on the abundance of greatness and the profound growth of my personal pillars: community mentorship, education, and capital. From the launch of my debut book in February to the 'The Beauty of Success Books + Bubbles' book tour, and the release of our second annual 2024 Economic Advancement Report, surrounded by founders and allies in our community, it's a season of manifesting miracles, connectivity, and, above all, encouragement and inspiration. Every encounter and every stop illuminates my path a little brighter.

This month is truly a reflection of Chapter 10 Greater Than You Can Imagine! It's astonishing how this pivotal moment in my career has surpassed even my wildest expectations. From transforming my business to realigning my team and forging new avenues of service, it's been a true brain trust of support from Kendra Scott and Veronica Beard , donating 20% of the proceeds from our events to BrainTrust Founders Studio to our amazing partners - El Hempe Spirits for keeping the bubbles flowing to Cantu Beauty , our haircare partner, to my Parfait who is revolutionizing AI technology across the hair industry, and so many more partners who continue to support along the way.

Forum speaks to issues affecting African American community

By DTRB

The New Jackson Madison County Voters Council held its first annual “State of Black Jacksonians event Saturday around the library downtown Jackson.
During the gathering, the panel of guest speakers discussed several issues concerning the African American community, like health and voting rights, leadership and the education system.
The forum was created to not only provide insight to local residents but also to help find ways to work towards positive changes.
Too often we have organizations that come together and talk but fail in Les bind and doing something about the issues they discuss” so the voters council certainly does not want to fall into that category” said Willie Ozier, President of the New Jackson Madison County Voters Council.
The event was free and open to the public and well attended.
