Police arrest suspect that barricaded himself inside home in south Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — After several hours, police arrest a local man following a barricade.

We were informed by multiple WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News tipsters sometime after 9 a.m. of heavy police presence off of South Highland.

Jackson Police Department and the SWAT team were spotted blocking off Case Drive with their vehicles and creating perimeters around the area.

We did learn from police that this was a situation where an individual had barricaded himself in a home. Police were out on the scene earlier at least 3 hours or more working with that individual, trying to get him to come outside of the residence.

Police were heard several times while they used a megaphone to negotiate with the individual.

We were told by workers at the car shop that police asked them to leave the building for a moment while they tried to de-escalate the situation.

Bystanders also told us that they heard the individual was in a home where he, or someone else, was being evicted. That information has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

The suspect finally surrendered and was taken into custody by JPD sometime after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. No bystanders or police were harmed during this incident.

Several social media posts and bystanders stated that this was a hostage situation. However, authorities say it was only a barricade situation.
