Inaugural Women’s Empowerment Workshop

On March 18, 2017 the Lane College Office of Academic Affairs will host the Inaugural

Women’s Empowerment Workshop from 10 a.m. until noon in the Chambers McClure

Academic Center on Lane’s Campus.

The workshop will include two sessions, with the first focusing on the theme of the

event, “Breaking the Glass Ceiling.”

The first session will comprise of a panel discussion from a variety of professional and

organizational leaders as well as a diverse group of race, religion and nationalities.

“Each of those women will share empowering stories about their journeys through their

professions,” Vice-President of Academic Affairs Dr. Michelle Stewart, said.

In honor of women’s history month, the workshop will open with some of the Lane

College students reading a poem about women’s history and empowerment.

The second half of the workshop will be comprised of multiple break-out sessions.

The sessions will focus on such topics as “Women’s Careers: How to balance work and

life,” “The development of self-esteem” as well as financial management and

relationship workshops.

The event is free and open to the public but space is limited.

Dr. Stewart said it is important for Lane College to be involved with women in the

community.

“The main purpose of the conference is to empower women, to encourage women and

to provide them with knowledge and information about how to develop their skills,”

Stewart said.
