Little Free Pantry Offers Place to Give and Get Help
The first Little Free Pantry (LFP) in Fayette County is now operating in Oakland, TN. LFP is a collaboration between Fayette Cares, the Town of Oakland, and caring Oakland resident Enjelica Tran. The project lets neighbors help neighbors by creating a place to give or get donated food and personal items.
With support and donations from Martin Construction, the small outdoor structure was built and installed in front of Oakland’s Town Hall. Serving as a mini food pantry, donors may give donations anytime day or night. Those in need of food or other personal items may get small donations to provide temporary relief until they access emergency assistance through Fayette Cares or other programs.
Fayette Cares continually works in partnership to help those in need find food, safety and stability. The agency operates an emergency food pantry in Somerville, TN Monday - Saturday. Because food insecurity is a far reaching problem, local communities can help provide a safety-net for small needs that compliment Fayette Cares emergency services.
Only minutes after LFP was installed, the first donation was made by Patti Yancey of Kindred Spirit Style. Whether a need for food or a need to give, the LFP can help create a more caring community.
