MADISON COUNTY COVID-19 COMMUNITY LEVEL HIGH, CASES UP

MADISON COUNTY COVID-19 COMMUNITY LEVEL HIGH, CASES UP

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department confirms the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now puts Madison County at a high COVID-19 Community Level.

“COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Madison County and hospitalizations are up,” Regional Director Kim Tedford said. “Take steps to protect yourself and get tested if you develop symptoms.”

The CDC looks at COVID-19 hospitalizations, staffed inpatient beds, and new COVID-19 cases over the last 7 days to determine a county’s COVID-19 Community Level.

The CDC recommends the following for individuals living in counties with a high COVID-19 Community Level:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status (including K-12 schools and other indoor community settings).

  • If you are immunocompromised or high risk for severe disease, wear a mask or respirator that provides you with greater protection, consider avoiding non-essential public indoor activities, and talk to your provider about whether to take other precautions.

  • If you have a household or social contact with someone at high risk for severe disease, consider self-testing before contact and consider wearing a mask when indoors with them.

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.

  • Maintain improved ventilation throughout indoor spaces when possible.

  • Follow CDC recommendations for isolation and quarantine, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or develop symptoms.

Every home in the United States can now order a third round of free at-home COVID-19 test kits at https://www.covid.gov/tests. The results of COVID-19 at-home tests are not required to be reported to the health department.

“Please be vigilant when visiting family members or friends most at risk for serious illness due to COVID-19,” Epidemiologist Shanna Shearon-Wilbanks said. “Avoid visiting loved ones at long-term care facilities or attending in-person public events if you are sick. Please get tested.”

COVID-19 vaccines are available at the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with no appointment required. COVID-19 vaccine is available for children ages 5-11 on Fridays only.
