United Way of West Tennessee to Release Groundbreaking Study that Reveals Size and Scope of Financial Hardship Across West Tennessee
What: United Way of West Tennessee invites media representatives to attend the public launch of a groundbreaking report that provides a comprehensive picture of financial need in our West Tennessee communities, beyond traditional federal poverty guidelines.
Who: United Way of West Tennessee President Matt Marshall, United Ways of Tennessee leader Mary Graham, and City of Jackson Mayor Scott Conger.
When: Thursday, November 14th, 2019
2:00 p.m.
Where: Jackson Chamber
197 Auditorium St.
Jackson, TN 38301
Why: United Way has partnered with United For ALICE, which developed a series of new, standardized measurements that quantify the size of who in Tennessee’s workforce is struggling financially, and the reasons why.
United Way of West Tennessee will introduce ALICE – which stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – to the West Tennessee community as a measure of households that are working but cannot afford the basic necessities of housing, food, child care, health care, transportation and a smartphone. The ALICE Report will provide county-by-county and town-level data on the extent of financial instability among households.
The ALICE Report is a project of United For ALICE, a grassroots movement of more than 600 United Ways and their corporate, government and nonprofit partners that all use the same methodology for documenting financial need.
