UPDATED COVID-19 VACCINE BOOSTERS AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN AGES 5 TO 11 YEARS STARTING FRIDAY

 

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department will begin offering updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters to children ages 5 to 11 years on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022.

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently approved a new Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster. The new boosters, known as bivalent vaccines, target the original virus and omicron variant.

 

Individuals must meet the following criteria to receive an updated booster:

  • 5 years of age and older

  • Completed primary vaccination or have received the most recent booster dose with any authorized or approved monovalent COVID-19 vaccine at least two months prior

 

The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department offers Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 6 months to 11 years on Fridays only from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is required.

 

Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Children may receive a COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines at the same time. 

 

The health department offers first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine to individuals completing their primary series on Wednesdays only. Updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters are available to individuals 12 years and older Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is required.
