JACKSON-MADISON COUNTY REGIONAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT NOW OFFERING FLU VACCINE
JACKSON, Tenn. – Flu shots are now available at the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department.
The Centers and Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine every year. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical conditions.
CDC reports the United States had an estimated 8 million to 13 million flu-related illnesses, 3.7 million to 6.1 million flu-related medical visits, 82,000 to 170,000 flu-related hospitalizations, and 5,000 to 14,000 flu-related deaths in the 2021-2022 flu season.
“The flu vaccine helps prevent hospitalization and death,” Epidemiologist Shanna Shearon Wilbanks said. “Getting vaccinated helps protect you and others against some of the most prevalent strains of influenza.”
The flu vaccine is available at the health department Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only. Individuals may also receive a COVID-19 vaccine at their flu shot appointment.
COVID-19 vaccine boosters are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. First and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine are available to individuals completing their primary series on Wednesdays only. Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is available for children ages 6 months to 11 years on Fridays only. Appointments are not required for COVID-19 vaccines.
